What is the Affordable Healthcare Act?

The Affordable Health Care Act is a law establishing a set of health care reforms, including offering affordable health insurance to all Americans. It was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. Health insurance reforms will roll out during the course of 4 years.

Some key features of the Affordable Health Care Act include:

• Prohibiting companies from denying coverage to children less than 19 years old with pre-existing conditions.
• Providing preventive care, such as mammograms, for free.
• Expanding health insurance coverage for those who retire early.
• Providing discounts on prescription medications.
• Decreasing the amount of health care premiums.
• Increasing the eligibility limits  for Medicaid.
• Increasing tax credits for small businesses that provide insurance.
