Afro-Asian literature is literature that encompasses the cultural and political world of people with both African and Asian heritage. The term was coined around 1950 to 1955 and relates to people who share the two cultures.
In many island areas around the world, such as Cuba, there are people of both African and Asian descent who have started families together and are creating children of both cultures. The Afro-Asian literature genre also includes Asian characters that pop up in African American literature and African American characters that pop up in Asian literature. Authors from Charles Cesnutt, Edith Eaton, W.E.B. Du Bois, Wu Tingfang and Nella Larson are all part of Afro-Asian literature.
