At what age are growth spurts?

The first growth spurt a child experiences is from birth to 12 months. The second major growth spurt occurs during puberty, which is often between the ages of 8 and 13 in girls and 10 and 15 in boys.
A child's height growth slows dramatically after the first year. After a child is 2 years old, his rate of growth is about 2.5 inches per year until the adolescent years. In addition to the growth spurt that takes place during puberty, children experience the growth of underarm and pubic hair, along with growth of the sexual organs. Girls begin menstruation during this stage.
