At what age does one get wisdom teeth?

People normally get wisdom teeth in their late teenage years or early 20s. The wisdom teeth are the final set of molars that people get.

Wisdom teeth are sometimes properly aligned but are often misaligned and have to be removed. The misalignment of wisdom teeth causes other teeth to crowd in the mouth. The nerves and jawbone are sometimes affected by wisdom teeth that are misaligned in the gums. An impacted wisdom tooth does not fully protrude through the surface of the gums. This makes the gums more susceptible to bacteria and can cause swelling, pain and stiffness of the jaw.
