The state's DMV handles snowmobile registration. Each state differs in rules to using a snowmobile, but the vehicle itself must be registered in order to be used.
In order to register a snowmobile, the person must bring a filled-out snowmobile registration application, proof of ownership, proof of identity and payment. The person registering the vehicle must also have a bill of sale detailing the vehicle's sale price and how much tax was paid.
Some states issue temporary registrations to non-residents. The temporary registration can be downloaded from the local DMV website and filled out at home. Once filled out the person must pay the temporary registration fee.
