What is Agenda 21?

Agenda 21 is a United Nations plan of action that provides a guideline to manage human impact on the environment. Agenda 21 provides actionable plan recommendations that is to be implemented by all governments, systems and groups under the United Nations umbrella.

As of 2015, over 178 United Nations member governments h e adopted Agenda 21 as agreed upon during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development on June 14, 1992. To complement Agenda 21, participating United Nations member countries also follow recommendations and guidelines presented through the Statement of Principles for the Sustainable Management of Forests and the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development.
