Certification is not a requirement to be an agronomist, but the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics claims that agronomists with professional certification have better opportunities to earn higher salaries. While job opportunities are plentiful for agronomists with bachelor's degrees, a higher level of education could mean that less professional experience is required for a job. The BLS predicts a 10 percent increase in job prospects for agricultural scientists between 2010 and 2020.
