In the U.S. Air Force, CSO stands for Combat Services Officer. This officer is responsible for finding and eliminating targets from an aircraft, such as a fighter, tanker or bomber. A CSO needs focus and leadership skills to perform his duties.
According to the U.S. Air Force, a CSO must be able to master principles and techniques of weapons systems, perform surveillance and train other airmen. Someone who has interests in weaponry, aircraft, computer science and intelligence potentially makes a good CSO. Anyone who wants to become a CSO must enter and pass a nine-week program at the Air Force Officer Training School.
