What is an albino praying mantis?

Young praying mantids molt about ten times as they grow toward adulthood. After each molt, the mantis is a pure white color and looks like an albino. However, the white coloration only lasts a short period of time and soon the mantis darkens into a brown or green color.

Most praying mantids are not native to the United States and are instead species imported from China and Europe. There is a species of mantis called the California mantis native to the Western United States.

Praying mantids are carnivorous and eat any other insects they can catch. They are closely related to cockroaches.
