What is alkaline water?

Alkaline water is a beverage that has pH level above seven, giving it an alkaline pH as opposed to the neutral pH of regular water. It is sometimes referred to as ionized water.

Alkaline water is typically produced using faucet-based water ionizers. It is commercially available and is sold in bottles. Proponents of alkaline water claim its higher pH levels can boost the body's metabolism, remove excess acids from the blood stream and positively affect the general health and physiological functioning of the body. It is believed to slow aging and prevent disease. However, there is no empirical evidence that proves ionized water has any health benefits.
