Are almonds good for dogs?

A few unsalted almonds are a healthy snack for dogs. However, if a dog eats an excessive amount of salted almonds, it is possible for him to develop sodium ion toxicosis, also known as salt poisoning. In dogs, this causes vomiting, diarrhea, muscle tremors and seizures.
In addition, if too many almonds are eaten, their high fat content sometimes leads to an upset stomach, vomiting or diarrhea. In certain cases, too much dietary fat results in pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas.
While a limited amount of almonds is safe for dogs, other nuts should be avoided. These include black, English and Japanese walnuts. Also avoid hickory nuts, macadamia nuts, pecans and pistachios.
