Are eggs good for dogs?

Cooked eggs are good for dogs in moderation because they contain easily digestible proteins and nutrients. However, raw eggs are not recommended due to the risk of salmonella or other bacterial illnesses.

No more than one egg per day is generally recommended for the average dog, as too many can cause digestive upset or weight gain. Dogs can eat the entire egg including the shell, which provides calcium. Hardboiled eggs are often recommended as they are the easiest to feed, but any cooking method is acceptable as long as no butter, oil or seasoning is added. In addition to the risk of contamination, raw eggs contain a protein called avidin, which can cause biotin deficiency if consumed regularly.
