There is no specific treatment for Epstein-Barr syndrome, explains the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Some things that a patient can do to ease the symptoms include getting enough rest, taking plenty of fluids to stay dehydrated and using over-the-counter pain medications.
Also known as human herpesvirus 4, the Epstein-Barr virus is a viral condition that commonly spreads through bodily fluids, especially saliva, notes the CDC. Its symptoms include rash, swollen liver, fever, throat inflammation and spleen enlargement. The Epstein-Barr virus has no vaccine for prevention, and its symptoms are similar to those of other conditions, making it difficult for doctors to diagnose.
