Aluminum belongs to the family of metals referred to as other metals, along with boron, gallium and thallium. Aluminum carries the atomic number 13 and is also a member of Group 13 on the Periodic Table.
Pure aluminium is a silvery-white metal with many desirable characteristics. It is light and nontoxic as a metal, and it is also nonmagnetic and nonsparking. Aluminum is easily machined and formed and is often used decoratively. Aluminium is an abundant element in the Earth's crust, but it is not found naturally in nature. Hans Christian Øersted, a Danish chemist, was the first to produce tiny amounts of aluminum.
