The African leopard is a predator of the baboon. Nile crocodiles, lions and hyenas also prey on the baboon. Baboons are the third-largest members of the non-humanoid primate family, although size varies among baboon species.
The chacma baboon can grow to a length of 47 inches and weigh approximately 90 pounds. Distinguishing characteristics of baboons include long muzzles, sharp canine teeth and exposed buttocks. As omnivorous animals, baboons mostly eat vegetation but can prey on small antelopes, fish and velvet monkeys. Baboons live in large groups called troops that can contain as many as 250 members. Vocalization signifies dominance within these structures.
