What animals are predators of the snowy owl?

Foxes, jaegers, dogs, wolves and large birds are predators of snowy owls. Many owls are also killed by humans. Snowy owls are very protective of their young, swooping over the nest and attacking predators to insure survival of the species.

Ranging in size from 63 to 73 centimeters, snowy owls are the largest bird in the arctic. Weighing 1,550 to 1,600 grams, females are the largest of the breed. Snowy owls are white, with brown spots and bars, and have feet covered in white feathers to protect them from the cold climate. Usually living in the arctic tundra, they may be found as far south as Oklahoma, northern Alabama and central California when food is scarce.
