Annelids eat with a mouth that is located on the underside of the head. The mouth connects to an unsegmented gut that runs the length of the worm. The gut terminates at the anus, located at in the pygidium area at the end of the worm.
Annelids are a phylum of segmented worms that use rings of muscles located along the main body for locomotion. There are over 12,000 species of these invertebrates that inhabit land, freshwater and marine environments; earthworms are one well-known and widespread example of the phylum. Earthworms are a key component of soil health, as they eat soil and decaying organic matter while passing through it.
