According to Biography, Ansel Adams was a photographer who is most famous for his "iconic images of the American West, including Yosemite National Park." He used his work to bring awareness to the issue of conservation of wildlife areas.
Adam's career breakthrough occurred after he published his first portfolio, which was entitled "Parmelian Prints of the High Sierras." The portfolio included his famous image "Monolith, the Face of Half Dome," and it also led to a series of new opportunities and commercial assignments.
Adams was born in San Francisco, Calif., on Feb. 20, 1902. He died of a heart attack on April 22, 1984, in Monterey, Calif.
