Ants do not eat plants. Many species of ants, however, do eat the fungus that grows on a variety of plants.
Ants typically feed on nectar and other insects. They also feed on dead animals or seeds. Some species of ants scavenge for sugar and other types of food. Worker ants leave the nest in order to hunt for food. As they hunt, they leave a chemical trail, which enables other ants within the colony to locate the food source. The ants gather the food and return to the nest to feed the queens and the larvae. In the jungle, some large types of ants feed on any type of animal that they can catch.
