The appropriate daily dose of curcumin is 0.5 to 3 grams per day for use as a stimulant and carminative, states Drugs.com. Doses of 3 to 6 grams per day are being studied as a way to prevent ulcers, as of 2015.
In clinical trials, doses of up to 3,600 milligrams per day are standard, although doses as high as 8 grams are used, according to Drugs.com. Using doses higher than 8 grams per day has a tendency to cause gastrointestinal problems.
Curcumin is being studied as a possible preventative measure for some types of cancer, especially in the gastrointestinal tract, notes Drugs.com. It is also used to treat Alzheimer's and Huntington's diseases as well as colitis.
