The Army Security Agency, until it ceased operations in 1977, provided signal intelligence to the military during several wars. The organization was created in 1945 after the reorganization of its precursor, the Signal Security Service.

The Army Security Agency moved most of its agents to the Armed Forces Security Agency, the precursor to the National Security Agency, in 1949. It expanded again during the Korean War, took over electronic intelligence and warfare functions from the Signal Corps, and assisted the rest of the military in the field during the Vietnam War. The United States Army Intelligence and Security Command took over the functions of the Army Security Agency in 1977.
