The Romantic period of English literature was from 1785 to 1832. It is important to note that different scholars will give different dates for this period, but the dates vary by only a few years.
Study of the Romantic period will necessarily include the works of Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Shelley and Keats. These six are the most well known and some of the most prolific writers of the time. It is interesting to note that it was not the writers and poets of the Romantic period that called themselves Romantics; it was the later Victorians who gave them this appellation.
