Does aspirin work on a complex migraine?

Aspirin and other over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications can be helpful in stopping a migraine attack that has already begun, according to the UCLA Headache Research and Treatment Program. A minimum dosage of 650 milligrams should be taken with food to try to combat a migraine.

All migraines are complex neurological events that involve not only headache symptoms, but also sensory sensitivity, nausea, dizziness, fatigue and inability to concentrate. While taking aspirin doesn't help to prevent a migraine from starting, it can stop a migraine, especially if the aspirin is paired with caffeine. However, some people who take aspirin and caffeine together to treat migraines are subject to rebound headaches, notes the UCLA Headache Research and Treatment Program.
