What is an association neuron?

According to The Free Dictionary, association neurons, also known as interneurons and internuncial neurons, are neurons located in the spinal cord and the brain that conduct impulses between other neurons. They send impulses from sensory neurons and to motor neurons.

Neurons are extremely specialized cells that are conductive, which means that they can conduct impulses, and irritable, which means that they can respond to stimulation. Neurons have a cell body known as the perikaryon, or neurosome, that contains surrounding cytoplasm and the nucleus, and they contain nerve fibers that extend from the body of the cell and connect to other cells.
