Which attendees usually give wedding speeches?

The best man and the maid or matron of honor traditionally give speeches at wedding receptions. Wedding etiquette typically calls for toasts, or speeches, at three occasions: the engagement party, the rehearsal dinner and the wedding reception.
The father of the bride traditionally makes the first toast at the engagement party, generally as an engagement announcement. The groom's father may also wish to offer a toast. At the rehearsal dinner, the father of the groom usually makes the first toast during the main course. Other toasts may follow from the mothers, the best man, the maid or matron of honor, and anyone else who wishes to participate.
