Lisa Madigan was the Illinois Attorney General in 2014. She took over the position in 2003, becoming the first woman in state history to hold the office.
Madigan was a teacher and community organizer prior practicing law for the Chicago firm of Sachnoff and Weaver. She served as an Illinois State Senator from 1998 through 2002, when her seat was abolished by redistricting. She won the Attorney General’s office the same year by just 3.3 points. Notable moments from Madigan’s time in office include arguing before the U.S. Supreme Court in Illinois vs. Caballes and a denied motion to the Illinois Supreme Court to remove governor Rod Blagojevich from office prior to his eventual impeachment and arrest.
