The governor of Illinois in 2014 was Pat Quinn. Quinn lost the 2014 gubernatorial election to Bruce Rauner by a 4 percent margin that same year.

Pat Quinn originally ran for the Lieutenant Governor position alongside Rod Blagojevich. When Blagojevich was removed from his post on January 29, 2009 following corruption and bribery charges, Quinn became governor. In 2010, Quinn beat out Republican incumbent Bill Brady by a very narrow margin in the seventh-closest gubernatorial race in American history. In his time in office, Quinn signed the bill that made Illinois the 16th state in the nation to legalize gay marriage. He also signed the bill that abolished the death penalty in that state.
