What is the average cost of pallative care?

A U.S. study, using data collected in 2002 and 2003, found the average cost of hospital-based palliative care programs to be $6,421 per patient. A second study found the average cost of in-home palliative care to be $7,552 in 2002 prices, according to a study published in SAGE Journals.

The costs for palliative care programs were significantly lower than the costs of usual care in both hospital-based and in-home programs. A study, published in 2006, on advanced illness coordinated care programs in the United States recorded an average cost of $12,123 per patient. The costs for non-participants of this program were $16,295 per patient, explains the SAGE Journals study.
