On average, the lifespan of the saltwater crocodile and the American crocodile is approximately 70 years. Saltwater crocodiles live in Asia, Australia and India. The American crocodile lives in mainly South America and Central America, as well as Mexico and the Caribbean. Small numbers are also found in Florida.
The average weight of a full grown American crocodile is up to 2,000 pounds, while saltwater crocodiles only reach 1,000 pounds in adulthood. Saltwater crocodiles have been spotted far out to sea, as they are excellent swimmers, while American crocodiles stay closer to land in mangrove swamps, coastal lagoons and river estuaries.
