In 2014, few albino leopard boa constrictors are available for sale, so each snake costs about $5,000. This subtype of specialty boa was first bred by Tom Burke, boa morph specialist, around 2005. In 2008, the double heterozygous trait was once again bred by Burke and another breeder, Vin Russo.

Albino leopard boas arose from the interbreeding of a coral red boa and traditional red boa. The leopard boa itself is a genealogical anomaly of the Sonora Desert Boa; thus, albinism makes this subtype particularly rare. Leopard boas are on the small size, with breeding females measuring just 5 feet in length.
