As of May 2013, the average annual salary for a licensed practical nurse was $42,910, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Approximately 10 percent of LPNs earned at or below $31,300 per year, while the top 10 percent earned at or above $58,020 per year.
The highest-paying large employment sector was home health care, where LPNs averaged $44,970 per year as of May 2013, reports the BLS. LPNs in continuing care retirement communities averaged $44,230 per year. Connecticut was the highest-paying state for LPNs, with average pay at $54,690 per year. Alaska was next at $54,010 per year.
