In the largest employment setting, the offices of health practitioners, the average was $52,700 per year. In general medical and surgical hospitals, the average annual salary was $51,320.

In nursing care facilities, average annual pay was $60,840. Among other top employment sectors, pay was $62,810 in home health care services and $51,500 in physicians' offices. Pay also varied across states, with the highest state average for assistants in Texas, at $69,370 per year.
