The average weight of an adult seahorse is between 7 ounces and 1 pound. The height of adult seahorses ranges from 0.6 to 14 inches.
The 35 known species of seahorses are various shades of red, orange, green, yellow and gray and are found in shallow tropical and temperate waters around the world. Seahorses propel themselves with a small dorsal fin that flutters up to 35 times per second, and small pectoral fins at the back of the head are used for steering. Seahorses are monogamous and the only animal on the planet in which the male gestates the unborn young.
