Do bald eagles migrate?

Many bald eagles migrate, especially those that inhabit northern climates. They begin to migrate during the fall, when their food source begins to dwindle and the lakes and streams they live close to start to freeze. In the spring, they return to their place of origin to breed.
When eagles migrate to places of plentiful prey and open water, they utilize thermals. These are updrafts of warm air. Thermals save birds a great deal of energy, and they can fly toward their destination at speeds of approximately 30 miles per hour.
Fledgling eagles don't migrate with their parents but make their own way.
