Where is Bangkok?

The city of Bangkok is located in south central Thailand. The city touches the southern coast of the country, which borders the Gulf of Thailand.

Bangkok is Thailand's capital city, as well as its largest in terms of population. It is home to 8.2 million in the city and 14. 5 million in the metropolitan area, as of 2014. It was founded as Thailand's capital city in April of 1792, although it traces its roots back to the 15th century where it functioned as a small trading post in the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Bangkok's name comes from the Thai words "bang" meaning "village situated on a stream" and "ko" meaning island, which references the rivers that carve around the city.
