As of 2015, base pay for a private in the U.S. Marine Corps is $1,547 per month, and base pay for a private first class is $1,734 per month. Privates receive these base amounts regardless of years of service.
All enlisted members of the U.S. military have pay ratings between E-1 and E-9. Privates in the Marine Corps have E-1 ratings, and privates first class have E-2 ratings. Monthly base pay for privates is determined using the pay scale that applies to all members of the U.S. military. Marines do not receive a monthly pay raise based on years of service until they have achieved lance corporal, E-3 status.
