How do you bathe a guinea pig?

Guinea pigs do not need regular baths, but a bath every other month will help to keep a guinea pig clean. When it comes to baths, some guinea pigs behave calmly and enjoy the warm water and gentle massage that comes with a bath. Others will react negatively to the water and try to escape the bath.
It's best to introduce a guinea pig slowly to its first bath and have a towel ready to keep the guinea pig warm.
Step 1: Collect the bath essentials
Guinea pigs react well to mild pet shampoos made for small animals. Gather shampoo, towels, small plastic tub and a soft bristled brush.
Step 2: Place a washcloth on bottom of tub
To prevent the guinea pig from sliding around, place a washcloth on the bottom of the sink or plastic tub. If using a regular kitchen sink, a hand towel may work better than a washcloth.
Step 3: Wash the guinea pig with warm water and shampoo
Using warm water, completely wet the guinea pig, avoiding the eyes and nose areas. Use a dime-sized amount of shampoo and massage it gently into the guinea pig, building up a good lather. Rinse with warm water until the water runs clear.
Step 4: Dry the guinea pig
Use a warmed towel to gently rub the guinea pig until all of the fur is dry. With the soft bristled brush, remove any tangles and groom the guinea pig.
