Do bats hibernate and migrate?

In times of low food supply, bats can choose to hibernate or migrate. Where bats live is dependent on the food supply available in a given area.
Bats can migrate or hibernate due to harsh climate changes. Migration involves leaving one location when food supply lessens and returning to that same location when the food supply becomes abundant again. Some bats choose to sleep or hibernate through periods of scarce food availability. A few species of bats can actually migrate and hibernate if they so choose, such as the silver-haired bat and the red bat. Tree-roosting bats typically migrate, as trees provide little shelter from wintry conditions.
