Do house mice hibernate?

House mice do not hibernate; instead, they gather food and store it for later. Mice are commensal rodents who depend on man for food and shelter.
Mice travel in a 10- to 30-foot radius to obtain food, water and shelter. Mice prefer to eat seeds and grains, but they indulge in bacon, chocolate, candy, butter and nuts. In six months, two mice produce 18,000 droppings and eat 4 pounds of food. More food is lost to nibbling contamination than is eaten. House mice gain entry to structures by climbing, crawling and chewing, and they construct runways and build nests under floorboards and throughout walls.
