What is a beard?

A beard is hair that grows on the cheeks and chin on a man. Beards can be trimmed in a variety of different ways.

A man who chooses to wear a beard usually keeps it trimmed in a specific style. Beard styles have names such as "goatee," "mutton chops" and "chin strip."

The type of beard a man has sometimes depends on the amount of hair he can grow and the shape of his face. Not every man can successfully grow a full beard, and for those men, goatees and soul patches are two alternative options. Those who are older or who can easily grow a full beard may choose to have mutton chops or a chin curtain.
