Olive oil moisturizer is rich in vitamins A and E and can even help heal the skin. A basic moisturizer requires just three ingredients: 2 cups of pure olive oil, 1/2 cup flower petals and 2 tablespoons of vitamin E oil. The moisturizer needs 3 weeks to steep.
Prepare the vitamin E oil
Place the petals in a glass jar with an airtight lid. Typical flowers for moisturizers include calendula, chamomile and lavender. For best results, use fresh flowers over dried. Pour the vitamin E oil on top, making sure it coats the petals.
Heat the olive oil
Heat the oil over medium heat on the stove until it is shimmering. This kick-starts the infusion process.
Combine the ingredients
Carefully pour the olive oil into the glass jar with the flowers and vitamin E oil. Close the jar, and shake vigorously until the mixture is combined.
Add essential oils
It is not necessary to add additional oils. However, they do change the smell and the healing properties of the moisturizer. Add rosemary for antibacterial properties or vanilla for a homey scent. Only add 10 drops of essential oil.
Mix the oil
Almond and argan oils increases the moisturizing factor. Add 1/4 cup of almond or argan oil to the mix, if desired.
Steep the oils
Set the mixture in a warm place away from the sun for three weeks, shaking it daily.
Strain out the solids
Use a fine sieve to strain the solids from the oil. Pour the oil into a small glass jar with a tight stopper.
