Grown bedbugs are visible and are the size of an apple seed. After feeding on blood, they become larger in size. Bedbug eggs are the size of a grain of salt.

Bedbugs are nocturnal and are more likely to bite at night. They pierce skin with a beak and feed for up to 10 minutes. Signs of bedbugs include itchy skin, blood on sheets, dark spots of excrement on walls, sheets or pillows and a musty odor.

The only source of food for the bedbug is blood, and they can survive months without feeding. Some people have no reaction to a bedbug's bite. Bedbugs do not transmit diseases.
