What is a Belgian Groenendael?
By Forinfos - 05/03/2026 - 0 comments
The Belgian Groenendael is a dog bred to herd sheep and other livestock. It looks somewhat like a German shepherd but traditionally has a black coat, a ruff around its neck and feathering on its forelegs, tail and belly.
The Groenendael is obedient, loyal and protective. It is used mostly as a police dog and guard dog. To be a good pet, it needs to be exposed to people almost from birth.
Males generally weigh between 65 and 75 pounds and stand between 24 and 26 inches in height at the ridge between the shoulder blades. Females are smaller and lighter. The breed has no major health risks.
