Sofia is Bulgaria's capital as well as its largest city. As of 2014, the city has a population of about 1.3 million people. Sofia was established in the 5th century B.C., and it was named the capital in 1879. The city is located in western Bulgaria, near Mount Vitosha.
Bulgaria is located in southeastern Europe, between Romania and Turkey. The country also borders Greece, Macedonia and Serbia as well as the Black Sea. Bulgaria has a total area of about 43,000 square miles, making it a little larger than the state of Tennessee. As of 2014, the population of Bulgaria is almost 7 million people.
