The Bermudas, or Somers Isles, is a British Overseas Territory. Its capital is the city of Hamilton, and the country has a total population of roughly 65,000 people.
Bermuda is an archipelago located just a few hundred miles southeast of Washington, D.C. It is made up of seven main islands and around 130 smaller islands. It was discovered in 1503 by Juan de Bermudez, a Spanish explorer who made no attempt to land in the area. As of 2014, the Bermuda islands are a popular international vacation destination. Bermuda has one of the highest per-capita incomes in the world; this income is based primarily on its heavy tourism.
