Will Biaxin treat a bladder infection?

According to WebMD, Biaxin is not typically used to treat bladder infections. The drug is prescribed for a number of other conditions, including strep throat, tonsillitis, lyme disease, certain forms of pneumonia and some middle ear infections.

The Mayo Clinic indicates that Biaxin is a brand name of the antibiotic clarithromycin, so it is prescribed for bacterial infections. It is available in tablet and liquid forms. Sometimes patients begin feeling better before the medication cycle is finished. However, the full prescription should be used because the infection is likely still present.

Common side effects of Biaxin include nausea and diarrhea, states WebMD. The Mayo Clinic recommends seeking medical attention for more rare but severe side effects such as cough, fever or chills, hoarseness, back or side pain, or urination problems.
