How big was Egypt when Khufu ruled?

Khufu ruled in the first half of the period known as the Old Kingdom, during which time Egypt consisted of the Nile River region and the area along the river south to Elephantine. This places the southern tip of Khufu’s empire in the modern city of Aswan in southern Egypt.

Historians place Khufu’s reign from about 2589 to 2566 B.C. There is little historical data that documents his reign but inscriptions indicate that Khufu led raids into the Sinai Peninsula to the east, Nubia to the south and Libya in the west. Since it is unlikely that inscriptions would exist had these raids been unsuccessful, scholars contend that Khufu expanded his kingdom to these areas during his reign.
