How big is a Tibetan Mastiff?

Male Tibetan Mastiffs can be as tall as 33 inches at the shoulders and weigh as much as 160 pounds, while females are slightly smaller. According to the American Kennel Club, the Tibetan Mastiff is classified as a large breed dog. Though majestic and somewhat imposing in appearance, it is also a very social breed that loves companionship.

Generally friendly, the Tibetan Mastiff functions well as a family guardian, and they have also been used as livestock guard dogs. Protective by nature, they are capable of confronting large predators such as wolves. Tibetan mastiffs have a life expectancy from 10 to 14 years. These dogs have fewer genetic health problems than other large breeds.
