BIgeye tuna are a species of tuna found in tropical and subtropical areas of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans. Bigeye are smaller than bluefin tuna but larger than yellowfin tuna. Bigeye tuna are fished commercially and are commonly sold fresh for sashimi.
Bigeye tuna can live for 10 to 12 years. They are long and streamlined in shape. They are a metallic blue color on top and have white bellies.
Tuna are large, agile, fast-moving fish that inhabit the open oceans. They are predators near the top of the food chain. Yellowfin tuna is the species most commonly used in canned tuna.
