Is a bird a reptile?

A bird is not a reptile. With the exception of some extinct species, reptiles are cold blooded and have scutes or scales, while a bird is warm blooded with feathers. Like birds, many species of reptiles lay eggs, but snakes and lizards give birth to their offspring.

Reptiles generally inhabit desert areas, and they do not exist at all in Antarctica. As of June 2014, one-third of the species is threatened with extinction.

The largest reptile in North America is the American alligator, whose form has not changed in its 200-million-year history. It is generally found in small bodies of water, lakes, rivers or freshwater swamps and marshes.
